Put 52 cards (13 kinds) into the deck. Shuffle the deck. Deal 5 cards from the deck to each player's hand.

Deck: a pile, shared, hidden from everyone (only the count shows). Hand: a pile, each player has their own, visible only to its owner. Books: a spread, each player has their own, face up for everyone.

Ask seat 0 — in one combined choice: choose one of: Ace, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Jack, Queen, King, and uses your own hand • If any card in the chosen my hand whose rank matches the chosen rank: ask player 1: “Do you have any of the asked rank?”; play pauses until they answer. Ask seat 1 — in one combined choice: choose one of: Ace, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Jack, Queen, King, and uses your own hand • If any card in the chosen my hand whose rank matches the chosen rank: ask player 2: “Do you have any of the asked rank?”; play pauses until they answer. Respond to ask — uses your own hand. • If any card in the chosen my hand whose rank matches the rank being asked about: move every card in the chosen my hand where the rank of that card matches the rank being asked about to the player who asked's hand; settle the open question. • If it is not true that any card in the chosen my hand whose rank matches the rank being asked about and the deck has any cards: move the top card of the deck to the player who asked's hand; settle the open question; play passes to the next player. • If it is not true that any card in the chosen my hand whose rank matches the rank being asked about and the deck is empty: settle the open question; play passes to the next player. Claim book — in one combined choice: choose one of: Ace, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Jack, Queen, King, and uses your own books and your own hand • If the number of cards in the chosen my hand where the rank of that card matches the chosen rank matches 4: move every card in the chosen my hand where the rank of that card matches the chosen rank to the chosen my books. Refill or pass — uses the deck and your own hand. • If the chosen my hand is empty and the deck has any cards: move the top card of the chosen from zone to the chosen my hand; play passes to the next player. • If the chosen my hand is empty and the deck is empty: play passes to the next player. (Where several rules are listed, the first one that applies is used.)

Once the hand and the deck are empty, the player with the most cards in their books wins; a tie is a draw.
